    THINK SAUDI ARABIA:  Capturing Advancement in Design, Economy,Innovation, People, Arts  and Culture.

    The SAGIA National Photography Competition 2010 is an initiative  that aims to showcase 21st century Saudi Arabia. Photographers in the  Kingdom will beinvited to submit photographers taken between 2009 and 2010.

    The competition will be launched in August 2010 and will remain open  for submissions until October 31, 2010. International jury will judge the  photos and announce the winners, who will receive prestigious recognition and  financial awards. The produced photographs will be exhibited in both Jeddah and  Riyadh during November and will be showcased internationally in THINK Magazine.  For more information, please refer to the PDF brochure. Photographers in the  Kingdom are invited to participate in the competition and can submit up to five  images in three different categories (out of a total of seven categories).

    1.1. By  entering this Competition, You hereby accept the Competition Rules developed by  the Organizer.
    1.2.1. The  Competition is open to all Saudi nationals and Saudi residents for free.
    1.2.2. The  Competition is open to everyone regardless of the profession.
    1.3. Entries  must be submitted by October 31, 2010.
    1.4. By  entering the Competition, You agree and acknowledge that SAGIA is permitted to  receive Your registration data. All personal information will be used by SAGIA  in accordance with its Privacy Policy.
    2. To  enter, You must upload Your image via the following website:www.thinksaudiarabia.com (the "Website"), following the  on-screen instructions carefully.
    2.1. Images  must be taken between 2009 and 2010 and entries should be  based on the Categories outlined; information on which can be  found on the Website.
    2.2. All  files must be uploaded in JPG format, RGB, free of noise or any other alteration, with a minimum size of 3MP and a maximum size of 10 MB.
    3.1. Entries  will be judged by the Jury Panel between October 15, 2010 and October 25, 2010.
    3.2. A  shortlist of up to ten photographers from each category will be selected and announced in the online photo gallery (www.thinksaudiarabia.com).
    3.3. Winners  in each category of the THINK Saudi Arabia Competition 2010 will be notified by email within a week following the decision and  will receive.
    3.4.  The decision of the Jury Panel is final and not open to any negotiations.
    3.5. Each  contestant can submit up to five images in three categories for free. The five images can be under a single category or under different  categories. Judging will be based on individual images and not a series of  images.
    4.1. The  Organizer reserves the sole right to disqualify and remove any entry that does  not comply with the following requirements, even after the entry is submitted  on the Website. You agree to, warrant and confirm, in respect of each entry  submitted by You (“Entry”), the following:
    4.1.1. You  are the sole owner and author of each Entry
    4.1.2. You  have the right to make Your entry available to the Competition
    4.1.3. Each  Entry does not contain personally identifiable information about You or any other person(s);
    4.1.4. Each  Entry does not contain any infringing, threatening, false,  misleading, abusive, harassing, libelous, defamatory, vulgar,  obscene, scandalous, inflammatory, pornographic or profane content;
    4.1.5.  Each Entry does not contain any material that could constitute or  encourage conduct which would be considered a criminal offence,  give rise to civil liability, or otherwise violate any law in Saudi Arabia;
    4.1.6.  Each Entry does not infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, contract  rights, or any other intellectual property rights of any third  person or entity, or  violate any person’s rights of privacy or publicity, and Your  Entry does not include:
    4.1.6.1. trademarks owned by third parties;
    4.1.6.2. copyrighted materials owned by third parties (including  movie dialogue or musical compositions);
    4.1.6.3. Names, likenesses; or other characteristics identifying celebrities or other public figures, living or dead;
    4.1.7. Entries which contain any commercial content that promotes any product or service other than that of WPO;
    5. If You are  under 16, You have Your parent’s or legal guardian’s consent to participate in the Competition.
    6. If  the Organizer does not receive a valid signed parental or legal guardian  consent form for any winner under the age of 16 within 7 working  days of the  contestant being declared a winner (excluding the day on which  suchdeclaration is made by Organizer), the Organizer will be entitled  to select a different contestant as winner.
    7.1. The  Organizer recognizes that You, the author of the image, will retain full ownership of the copyright in each Entry.
    7.2 All competitors understand that winning image, and a short-list of five best images  in each category, submitted to the Competition  may be used by SAGIA, and THINK Magazine,  for marketing and  promotional  purposes, for a maximum of five years  after the awards ceremony  and the  exhibition. You hereby grant  SAGIA a non-exclusive, irrevocable  license in  each Entry throughout  the world for five years in all media for  any use  connected to  promoting this event and Saudi Arabia as a  destination,  including,  but not limited to: (a) judging the Competition (b)  displaying the  winning entries and runners up at public exhibitions  promoting  SAGIA and  organized by SAGIA (c) inclusion within the  Website, a Photography  book,  magazine or similar (d) inclusion  within any materials promoting  the  Competition and / or any  exhibition organized by SAGIA, in the  promotion of  SAGIA (e)  inclusion in Competition and exhibition-related products  to be  sold  by SAGIA or any third party following the individual  agreement by  the  author (f) sub-licensing the Entries to the press for  reproduction  in connection  with the Competition and any exhibition  (g) allowing viewers of  the Website to  view images on a computer  screen, PDA or mobile telephone and  store such  pages in electronic  form on disk or on a PDA or mobile telephone  (but not on  any server  or other storage device connected to a network) for  their personal,  non-commercial use only. Please also refer to clause 9.
    7.3 Winning  and short-listed photograph’s owners will receive a certificate of recognition,  and appreciation for their efforts on behalf of SAGIA.
    8. Any  photograph used by SAGIA shall carry a credit line. Any failure to  provide such credit line shall not be deemed to be a breach, as  long as  SAGIA uses its reasonable endeavors to rectify such failure within  a reasonable period from the date of notice of such failure.
    9. You  acknowledge that it is Your responsibility to protect any entry  against image misuse by any third party, for example, but not  limited to the  insertion of a watermark. SAGIA and its event partners assume no responsibility and are not liable for any image misuse.
      10. SAGIA  assumes no responsibility for any incorrect, inaccurate or  incomplete information, whether caused by website users or by any  of the  equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the  Competition, and  SAGIA assumes no responsibility for technical, hardware or  software failure of  any kind, for lost network connections, garbled computer  transmissions, other  problems or technical malfunctions with regard to the Competition.  SAGIA  assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, corruption,  interruption,  deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission,  communications line
    failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to or  alteration of Entries.  SAGIA is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction  of any  telephone network or lines, computer on-line systems, servers,  computer  equipment, software, failure of any e-mail addressed to SAGIA on  account of  technical problems, human error or traffic congestion on the internet  or any  website, or any combination thereof, including any injury or  damage to Your or  any other person's computer related to or resulting from  participation or  downloading any materials in the Competition. If for any reason a  contestant’s  entry cannot be viewed or is not capable of running as planned,  including  infection by computer viruses, bugs, tampering, unauthorized  intervention, fraud or technical failures, SAGIA assumes no responsibility.
    11. In  no event will SAGIA be responsible or liable for any damages or losses   of any kind, including direct, indirect, incidental,  consequential, special or  punitive damages arising out of any contestant’s access to and use  of the  Website. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing,  everything on the  Website is provided "as is", without warranty of any  kind, either expressed or  implied, including, but not limited to, the implied warranties of  merchantability,fitness for purpose or use or non-infringement.
    12. You  agree to participate in related publicity and to the use of Your name  and likeness for the purposes of advertising, promotion and  publicity without
    additional compensation.
    13. All  entrants must be able to supply a high-resolution image suitable forprinting in media and an exhibition should the image be required.
    13.2. All  files must be uploaded in JPG format, RGB, free of noise or anyother alteration, with a minimum size of 3MP and a maximum size of  10 MB.
    14.The  Winner prizes are as follows:
    14.1. $ 15,000 USD cash prize for the 1st place Winner  of the Competition –Photograph which scored the most among Jury Members.
    14.2. $ 10,000 USD cash prize for the 2nd place Winner  of the Competition.
    14.3. $ 1000 USD cash prize for the Winner of each Category – photograph which scored the most in each category (excluding 1st  place and 2nd place winners of the Competition).
    14.4.  Each winner will also receive a certificate.

    This primary competition category has rich and diverse possibilities for you to explore.
    We are seeking images capturing architecture and design in Saudi Arabia in a fresh creative way:

    Buildings viewed from different angles and perspectives, the beauty of geometry or detail of molding or brickwork or sculpted mud, the contrast of modern against historic, interiors, design (industrial, interior, visual etc.) that represents both emerging and historic Saudi Arabia.

    You have an opportunity to present your country to the rest of the world in a way it has never been presented before. Design and architecture photos work well in offering the world a more realistic and contemporary image of the Kingdom.

    Identity.
    Identity is about questions like ‘who am I?’  ‘where do I come from?’ and ‘where do I belong?. There are three key aspects of this category:

    The Saudi culture and its code, history and tradition in Saudi Arabia, and symbols and representations.

    Applicants have the opportunity to explore those aspects of identity in a visually appealing way while bearing in mind that the photographs should present the Saudi identity to a broader international audience.

    Development:
    Education, Healthcare,
    Infrastructure, Economy.
    Linked directly to the theme of the competition, we are seeking entries that document the development in Saudi Arabia across:

    The economy, industries, sciences, and investments.

    Those images will be used by SAGIA in its marketing and promotional campaigns.

    Culture & Society.
    Headlines and stories in newspapers and on TV are always accompanied by photographs because they speak louder than words. And often enough even replace them. This category is about those stories and events, the ones in international spotlight and those at your doorstep:

    Images that freeze moments, capture key personalities and celebrities, represent or show cultural icons.

    In this category, we are accepting both black and white, and color photographs taken between 2009 and 2010.

    Natural Beauty.
    The scale of landscape photography has numerous possibilities. It offers the photographer endless pleasure, whether the natural fall of the land untouched by agriculture or industry, or the unnaturally colored HDR designs presenting Saudi landscapes:

    Aerial shots of vast sandy dunes of the Arabian Peninsula, the reddish and rocky hills in the mid-eastern part of the Kingdom, color of sand, panoramic shots of the western coastal region, a long view down an oasis path.

    This category includes animals, flora and landscapes that are unique and representative of different regions of Saudi Arabia.

    Documentary.
    The Documentary category invites Saudi photographers to capture significant occurrences of everyday life and share them with the rest of the world. The image should candidly represent:

    Documenting a time for a person, place, current issue, a significant record for history through an event, the news of the day, week or month, and turning-point events in Saudi Arabia.

    The image should reflect a truthful event and not be altered by the presence of a camera or digitally altered in any way. The event should have taken place between 2009 and 2010.

    Advertising/Commercial
    At the top end of the range, this type of photography is expensive since it requires state of the art equipment. But its objective is always the same:

    To transmit a message that sells a product, an idea, or a brand.

    Advertising has always attracted all kinds of artists; from the avant-garde to the traditional. Here, we welcome images that match their adventurous spirit in areas that vary from Fashion to Retail, and from Music to Design.

    Competition Preliminary Guidelines:
